VIRTUAL Two 1/2 Days - Dementia Conne...
Description
If you are a healthcare professional or family caregiver providing care to those living with dementia, or you are looking for your business to become more dementia friendly, this seminar is for you!
This course is for individuals that either want to become certified as a Dementia Connection Specialist (DCS) or if you are just looking for quality dementia education.
In this nationally and internationally-accredited dementia care training, you will master an innovative cognitive-behavioral approach to care called the Dementia Connection Model© (DCM), which ties together three key concepts in understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and how to provide the best quality of care. You will better understand the disease progression through the lens of the DCM and how to apply it to every aspect of dementia care. During the course, you will exercise your brain in learning how to best implement evidence-based, non-pharmacological, sensory-based approaches and tools that are a part of the model of care, which have been proven to positively influence the emotions of those living with dementia, enabling positive behavioral expressions and a better connection with their caregivers. You can use these tools immediately!
Created by Dr. Jennifer Stelter, clinical psychologist, dementia expert, national speaker, and Johns Hopkins Press author of The Busy Caregiver's Guide to Advanced Alzheimer Disease. Led by DCS Certified Trainer (DCSCT), Sherry Boothby, OTR/L, CLVT, SHSS, CDP, DCS, DCSCT, MS, Certified Senior Home Safety Specialist™
Aging Life Care Professional® and owner of Happy at Home Seniors, LLC.
Through the DCS seminar, you’ll...
- Receive a fundamental education on this disease, why behavioral expressions occur, and how to best provide engagement and care
- Enhance the quality of life for those you care for through person-centered care and by upholding a person's rights
- Learn various communication, engagement/activities, and non-pharmacological interventions and techniques
- Become well-equipped at handling ADL care
- Enable a dementia-friendly, safe environment while preventing abuse
- Enhance your confidence in your caregiving role
- And improve your quality of life and your caregiving experience
You'll receive:
- DCS seminar with six (6) hours of validated dementia training
- Six (6) Continuing Education (CE) hours, if needed
- DCS certification is valid for two (2) years
- DCS Workbook and DCS My Toolbox (Caregiver Toolbox)
- 10% off the DCI’s Online Dementia Classroom
A non-certification option is available if you are just looking for quality dementia education. This provides a more cost-effective option for family caregivers and community businesses, who do not require a certification unless desired.
These certifications and CEs are provided from the Continuing Education Institute (CEII), with the approval of the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, the Illinois Board of Education as well as various local, state, and national professional organizations. Please check with your specific state or jurisdiction board for any required approvals needed.
Upon course completion, you will then be awarded the DCS valid for 2 years, and earn 6 continuing education (CE) credits, if needed.
No form of videotaping nor laptops permitted in class to preserve the integrity of the training. The PowerPoint slide deck will not be provided.
